I totally want to bone my headphones.

I dropped $200 yesterday.

I’m not saying that just to sound like a badass. I’ll be honest, I was a bit nervous to do so. But seriously, tracking and mixing with earbuds is fucking retarded. My old Sonys blew out a couple years ago and I couldn’t be bothered to replace them. It’s weird; I still have them and they make things sound like they were compressed at 28kbps. How in the hell did that happen?

Whatever.

Brandon and I worked on the latest Whistles With Devilbirds track yesterday, “The Devilry Of The Siberian Gnome”. Before we did that, though, we made a stop at Guitar Center because I was tired of tracking with earbuds. (Seriously. Retarded.) Josh had suggested some headphones a few months ago, so I figured it was time to pick them up.

Write this down: Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO. (Guitar Center)

I won’t bore you with the technical specifications. You can visit their website for those. All you need to know is that these are the best headphones I’ve ever used. Not only is the frequency range wide, they block out a metric shit-ton of ambient noise, they sound amazing and they’re accurate enough for mixing and mastering. They didn’t kill my ears with fatigue, either—and that was after an 8 hour session. To top it all off, they are absolutely comfortable. It’s pretty incredible, actually, that I’ve tolerated other headphones that didn’t fit well—that just plain ol’ hurt to use.

I’m glad I didn’t second-guess the purchase yesterday. Like I said, I was a bit nervous to drop a big sum on what almost felt like a whim. But, hey, I trust Josh. He’s got magic ears.

Once tracking started, all fears disappeared.

That is all.
Love, David.
